Yesterday in class we mainly just watched videos about population pyramids and TEDEd talks. We watched a TEDEd talk where a woman who was a model went into a deep thought. She walked on the stage as if she was walking and doing a photo shoot. As she changed into casual clothes she changed the perspective in which people saw her. She made people realize that not everyone is looked at the same. She made the people realize that we are privileged due to the way we look and what color we are. She then discussed getting pulled over by a cop that let her go just because she was pretty, white, and privileged. This made her realize that our appearance influences the decisions of others. By the end of the speech she brought up the point that if it was a black person wearing baggy clothes they would be harassed and told to get out just because they don’t have pretty white skin. I didn’t really agree with this but I guess some people do.
