today in class we took a test. the test was all multiple choice which helped the test to be a little bit easier. the test was not that hard and was overall a simple test. I am not worried at all about this test and I feel like did really good. hopefully I got a high A. this is our last test until midterms. this made me realize we do not have much longer until midterms. once we have midterms there will not be much time to get your grade back up if you failed them. I need to start cracking down on studying so I can finish this semester comfortably and not have to worry over Christmas break.

"Changing U.S. Immigration"

- Then United States plays a special role in then study of international migration

- The United States has had three main eras of immigration

- Most Africans were forced to migrate to the United States as slaves

- Between 1820 and 1920, approximately 32 million people immigrated to the United States

- Among European countries, Germany has sent the largest number of immigrants to the United States

- Immigration to the United States dropped sharply in the 1930s and 1940s, during the Great Depression and WW2. Number steadily increased beginning in the 1950s then surged to really high levels during the 21st century

- Reason fro immigration remains the same: rapid population growth has limited prospects for economic advancement at home

In class we listened to a podcast. First the podcast talked about ASYLUM, which is what people claim so they can live in America legally. We started ASYLUM after Jews came over on the SS. Saint Louis to escape the nazis. We rejected them because they didn’t have the proper paperwork to come to America. The Jews went down the coast of Central America trying to escape the nazis but could not gain acceptance from the countries. They went back to Europe and were eventually killed as nazi Germany expanded in size. After this happened the U.S. started asylum so people could escape their countries and have a safe place to stay. Once you claim asylum you have to give a valid reason on why you escaped your country. Once approved you can start to become a legal U.S. citizen.
